The 2013 National Geographic Photography Contest is running this month from 1st to 30th November 2013.

Last year, this National Geographic photography competition received more than 22,000 entries from over 150 countries, with professional photographers and amateur photo enthusiasts across the globe participating.

It costs $15 to enter a photo, and the winning photographs in each of three categories: people, place and nature, will be published in National Geographic magazine.

The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded $10,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Geographic Photography Seminar at the magazine’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

My transition from web design to photography started about 15 years ago, after my first trip to Central America. Disappointed with pictures in auto, I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn how to use the camera to its full potential in manual mode and improve my photography.
