Street Photography Course in central London

Street Photography Course in London – Brick Lane / Southbank.
The aim of this course is to introduce you to some of the practical and technical considerations of street photography but also to unpack some of the significance and meaning of what it actually means to be a street photographer.

During the workshop we will discuss and practice, some different aspects and approaches to street photography including Abstract, Classic, In your face, Modern / content-centric and Graphic.

Street photography has been around since the dawn of photographic history. In fact, some of the very first images ever recorded back in the mid 19th century were street photographs. If you ever go into a pub and are fascinated by the old photographs of local street scenes adorning the wall, then you are fascinated by at least one element of street photography.

Street photography is to record people and how they interact within the world which we, as people, have built around ourselves. It’s intriguing, appalling, shocking, playful, unexpected, depressing, thought provoking – the list of emotional responses goes on and on. Street photography is to invite, through the lens, a wide gamut of emotional, intellectual, but always human responses to the world we inhabit.

who is London street photography course for

The Street Photography course is one of our most popular workshops, but because we run it outdoors, it relies heavily on the weather. Please travel light and wear comfortable shoes.

During the workshop we will discuss and, of course, practice, some different aspects and approaches to street photography.

We usually run Street courses around Brick Lane and the Truman Brewery Markets (meeting by the Shoreditch station) or London South Bank and Embankment (meeting at Waterloo).

It is assumed that those attending will have a basic knowledge of photography and have an understanding of aperture, shutter speeds, ISO, or have already attended our Beginners DSLR or Intensive Beginner courses.

We recommend bringing 18-55mm kit lenses, or some primes like 24mm, 50mm, 85mm. If you have a range of lenses please email us after making a booking and we will recommend the best lenses for this course.

All DSLR cameras, mirrorless and bridge systems from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax etc are very welcome. Generally, any digital camera that allows manual exposure should be suitable for the Street Photography workshop.

If you’d like to double-check your camera suitability before making a booking or have questions about the course please call us on 020 8947 8118, or email [email protected]

We offer free camera and lens hire for the duration of the course.

Tripods are not required.

“I've attended the street course on the South Bank. Rob is such a nice person, he helped everyone with camera settings and gave a lot of tips on how to approach and talk to people you want to photograph. I am much more confident now and hope to practice a lot more on my own. Thank you so much!”

NatashaCanon 800D

“Great street photography course. I learnt so much more about my camera and discovered new ways of taking more creative pictures. There was a good balance of technical explanations and the practical exercises. Sunnny weather was a bonus! Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!”
