London photography courses satisfied students

Yes, DSLR Photography Courses is still running, but we are now operating in a more flexible way.

After nearly 16 years of teaching photography in London, we have moved out of our permanent studio at Wimbledon Art Studios and are no longer running the full regular course programme in the same way as before.

Some courses continue as scheduled small-group workshops, while many specialist subjects are now available mainly as one-to-one photography tuition or custom private sessions.

We no longer teach from one permanent studio.

Depending on the course, tuition may take place in central London locations, outdoor photography routes, cafés, hired studios or other carefully chosen venues.

For each course or private tuition session, we will confirm the exact meeting point, studio or location before the date.

Our main scheduled courses currently include the Intensive Beginners Photography Course and the Travel Photography Course in London.

We also offer one-to-one photography tuition for students who would like a more personal session tailored to their own camera, level and goals.

Specialist subjects such as portrait photography, studio lighting, product photography, jewellery photography, food photography, wedding photography, Lightroom and Photoshop may be available as private tuition or custom sessions by request.

Possibly, yes.

As we restructure the business, some specialist courses may not have regular group dates. However, many of these subjects can be arranged as private one-to-one tuition or a custom small-group session, depending on tutor availability.

Please email us: info@dslrphotographycourses.com with the course or subject you are interested in, and we will let you know what can be arranged.

Courses and Equipment

The best way to start learning photography is to practise with your camera and understand what the main settings actually do.

I often compare photography to driving. At first, there is a lot to think about, but the more you practise, the more natural it becomes. You just need a good starting point.

For most people, our Intensive Beginners Photography Course is the best place to begin. It will help you move away from Auto mode, understand aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focusing and exposure, and start taking more creative pictures with confidence.

If you prefer a more personal approach, or you have specific questions about your own camera, our one-to-one photography tuition may be a better option.

For most beginners, we recommend our Intensive Beginners Photography Course.

It is our main beginner-level photography course in London and the best starting point if you want to understand your camera properly, move away from Auto mode and learn how aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focusing and exposure work together.

If you prefer to learn outdoors in real London locations, our Travel Photography Course is also suitable for beginners, although it is a little more location-based and less technical than the Intensive Beginners course.

If you would like personal help with your own camera, lenses or specific photography goals, one-to-one photography tuition may be the best option.

Teenagers are welcome on many of our photography courses, especially if they are interested in learning how to use a camera properly and can concentrate for the length of the session.

For younger students, we usually recommend contacting us before booking so we can advise on the most suitable option. Depending on age, confidence and experience, a private one-to-one lesson or a small private session with a parent may be better than a full-day group course.

For school groups, creative workshops or custom sessions for young people, please email us with more details and we will let you know what can be arranged.

Yes. Although our name is DSLR Photography Courses, our courses are suitable for many types of digital cameras.

DSLR, mirrorless and bridge cameras are all welcome, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic and other major brands.

In general, your camera should allow you to control aperture, shutter speed, ISO and focusing. If you are not sure whether your camera is suitable, please email us with the make and model and we will confirm before you book.

Please bring your digital camera, a suitable lens, a fully charged battery and a memory card with plenty of free space.

You are welcome to bring as much or as little gear as you like. If you have more than one lens and are not sure what to bring, please contact us before the course and we will recommend the most suitable option.

For outdoor courses, we also suggest comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and a small bag so you can carry your camera equipment easily.

For Lightroom, Photoshop or editing tuition, please bring a laptop with the relevant software installed, unless we have agreed another arrangement in advance.

Camera hire may be available for some courses or private tuition sessions, but it is no longer automatically available for every workshop.

If you do not have a camera yet, or if you would like to borrow one for the course, please contact us before booking. If we can arrange a suitable camera for your session, we will be happy to help.

Camera hire must be agreed in advance and is subject to availability.

It depends on the course.

Some courses are taught outdoors in real London locations, while others may take place in a café, teaching space, hired studio or a mix of indoor and outdoor locations.

Travel, street and night photography courses are usually location-based and outdoors. Portrait, studio lighting, product or editing tuition may take place indoors or in a hired studio depending on the subject.

Exact details are confirmed before each course or private tuition session.

Gift Vouchers

Yes, we try to be flexible whenever possible.

You may be able to use your voucher towards a different course, private tuition or a more expensive session by paying the difference.

Please contact us before booking so we can confirm the best option.

Payments, Cancellations & Refunds

You can book and pay securely online through our website. Most online payments are processed by Stripe, which accepts major debit and credit cards.

For some private tuition sessions, custom bookings or group workshops, we may also offer payment by bank transfer. Please email us if you would prefer to pay this way.

Thank you for booking.

After your booking is confirmed, we will send you course details, meeting information and any joining instructions you need.

For one-to-one tuition or custom sessions, we may email you to ask a few questions about your camera, experience and what you would like to learn, so we can tailor the session properly.

Please check your spam or junk folder if you do not receive an email from us.

If you cannot attend your course or private tuition session, please let us know as soon as possible.

If you give us at least 7 days’ notice, we can usually offer a refund, credit or arrange a new date.

If you give less than 7 days’ notice, we will do our best to help, but this may depend on tutor availability, whether your place can be resold, and whether any venue, studio, model or other direct costs have already been committed.

If you cancel on the day or do not attend, we regret that we may not be able to offer a refund.

Yes, in most cases you can transfer your booking to another person.

Please contact us before the course and send us the new attendee’s name, email address, phone number and camera details, so we can update the booking information.

Location & Contact

We no longer have a permanent teaching studio at Wimbledon Art Studios.

Courses and private tuition now take place in carefully chosen London locations, outdoor routes, cafés, hired studios or other suitable venues depending on the subject.

The exact meeting point or studio address will be confirmed before your course or tuition date.

This depends on the course location.

Because we now use different venues and meeting points, parking arrangements vary. Once your course location is confirmed, please check local parking or public transport options.

For central London courses, public transport is usually the easiest option.

Please try to arrive around 10 minutes before your course or private tuition session.

If you are running late or cannot find the meeting point, please contact us as soon as possible so we can help.

If you cannot find the answer you need, please email us and we will be happy to help.
