Spend a full, hands-on day learning how to use your camera properly and start taking better pictures with confidence.
This practical beginners photography course is designed to help you move away from Auto mode, understand the most important camera settings, and use them creatively in real-life situations. We’ll start the day with coffee and a clear explanation of how your camera works, then continue with guided practical exercises outdoors in central London.
You’ll learn how to control exposure, focus, depth of field, movement, light and composition — with plenty of time for questions, personal tips and feedback on your photos.

Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start promptly at 10:00am. We’ll begin with coffee, introductions and camera setup before heading outside for practical exercises.

Who it’s for
This course is perfect for complete beginners and improvers who want to feel more confident with their camera.
It is suitable if you have just bought a camera, owned one for a while but still feel stuck on Auto, or simply want to understand how to take more creative and consistent photographs.
DSLR, mirrorless and bridge cameras are all welcome, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic and Pentax. Ideally, your camera should allow manual control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

- Metering and exposure — how to make images brighter or darker when needed
