Discovering Photography — One Intensive Day at a Time
— July 2025
On Saturday 12th July, Rob ran another packed Intensive DSLR & Mirrorless Beginners Photography Course at Wimbledon Art Studios. It was a hot day in London but perfect for exploring photography — from hands-on practice in the studio to exercises in natural light outdoors.
Our group included complete beginners and some with camera experience, but all wanted to finally master manual settings and move beyond phone photography.
Jonathan joined us with his Nikon Z50, still in mint condition after a year — his wife gifted it to him along with our course vouchers. As an interior architecture graduate, Jonathan had a great eye for composition but wanted to understand camera controls ahead of a road trip to Brittany, France.
I just don’t know how to use my new camera, and the guidebook is 350 pages long!
Andy came along with his Canon 250D and several lenses, including a Sigma 150-600mm he’s yet to use. Passionate about motorsport, aviation, and wildlife, Andy wanted to finally get his head around the exposure triangle — and prepare for upcoming trips to Morocco, Tenerife, and the British Superbikes.
Glenys dusted off her Fujifilm FinePix S8400W, keen to get off Auto mode and make the most of it for her wildlife trip to Borneo. Nazrul brought his Nikon DX3, and sisters Lily and Zara shared a Fujifilm X100 VI for practice.
Whether it was understanding the balance of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO — or learning how to compose and capture in different lighting — the group gained confidence with their gear by the end of the day.
Is a Photography Course Worth It?
Absolutely — if you’re serious about really learning your camera and growing your creative skills, a practical photography course like ours is the best investment. You’ll get expert guidance, personal feedback, and real hands-on practice — something YouTube can’t match.
Which Course is Best for Photography?
If you’re just starting out, our Intensive Beginners Photography Course is the best way to build a solid foundation in just one day. For those with a passion for travel, landscapes, and storytelling, the Travel Photography Course is ideal.

Reviews from the students!
I’ve always enjoyed photography, but only ever on my iPhone. My wife bought me a camera, but I had no idea where to start — so I just didn’t use it! She then booked me on this course, and I’m so glad she did. I loved it — I’m no longer intimidated by my camera, and photography suddenly feels so much simpler. Rob was great, I learned loads and had a really enjoyable day!
Jonathan – Jonathan
I have a camera but never really used it because I didn’t know how to adjust the settings. I love taking pictures and want to improve, especially as I’m helping my mum with her recipe book by photographing her food — I want the photos to look much more professional.
Vallari
I love taking photos and really wanted to learn more about photography — I’m definitely going to buy my own camera now!
Lilly – Canon 600d
I have a camera but felt like I didn’t really know how to use the settings properly. This course really helped.
Zara – Fujifilm X100 mk VI
I wanted to learn how to use my camera on manual settings and get a proper introduction to photography — this course was perfect for that.
Anu – Fujifilm FinePix S8400W
I looked at other photography courses in London, but DSLR Photography Courses had the best reviews and the classes fit my schedule. There was a great selection of workshops, and this gave me the chance to develop my passion for photography.
Nazrul – Nikon D3
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and Rob for organising and running Saturday’s course. Rob was fantastic — he explained everything so well, answered all our questions clearly, and as I told him at the end: he ‘hit every nail on the head’ with everything I needed help with! I feel more inspired about photography now and much more confident using my camera. Thank you again — and please pass my thanks on to Rob. I’ll definitely look to book another course once I’ve had more practice!
Andy – Canon 250D
